penny for your thoughts

It’s fascinating how we pay to acquire and exchange ideas. I paid $52.00 for one year of publishing my ideas online. I purchased a book this morning for $17.25 USD (and that was the used copy). I’m not some extraordinary exception. Millions of people are doing this every day; exchanging currencies for thoughts. Maybe that’s how the entire world should be governed. Maybe we should all be working towards realizing our thoughts into physical forms, whether that be through illustration, writing, film, comedy, voice – truly anything. Maybe that should be our entire economic system. I bet that’s how the aliens do it: an entire economy based on thinking and sharing.

I believe we are healthiest when we have the freedom to govern our own lives and livelihoods. If I could wake up each morning and make my own conscious decisions about how I’m going to allot my time and not have any outside opinions on the matter, I would be so rich. All that would be expected of me is that I share my findings with others; with the world – with a world that does the same in return – a world that not only expects, but encourages intellectual diversity.

I think that one day, when the freedom to think is truly free, when our minds have been liberated and we celebrate the differences in our thinking, I might like to become an academic. Only then will it feel safe. I might even write a book.
